About this target
Chromosomal protein that binds to methylated DNA. It can bind specifically to a single methyl-CpG pair. It is not influenced by sequences flanking the methyl-CpGs. Mediates transcriptional repression through interaction with histone deacetylase and the co. Interacts with FNBP3 (By similarity). Interacts with CDKL5 (PubMed:15917271). Interacts with ATRX; MECP2 recruits ATRX to pericentric heterochromatin in neuronal cells (By similarity). Interacts with NCOR2 (By similarity). Subcellular location: Nucleus (Note: Colocalized with methyl-CpG in the genome). Expression: Present in all adult somatic tissues tested.
